Religion and World Views

Studying RE at Copley Academy gives students the opportunity to learn about other people’s beliefs, cultures and morals whilst developing their own opinions so that they are prepared to succeed in Modern multi-faith Britain.

In RE students learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions. They learn to weigh up the value of wisdom from different sources, to develop and express their insights in response, and to agree or disagree respectfully.

Teaching equips students with systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, enabling them to develop their ideas, values and identities. It also develops an aptitude for dialogue so that students can participate positively in our society with its diverse religions and worldviews.

Students learn to articulate clearly and coherently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences while respecting the right of others to differ.

Studying RE at Copley Academy gives students the opportunity to learn about other people’s beliefs, cultures and morals whilst developing their own opinions so that they are prepared to succeed in modern multi-faith Britain. The curriculum is not only benchmarked against the National Curriculum but also the Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Tameside and Trafford (SACRE) Agreed Syllabus, 2022-2027. RE is timetabled once a week for Key Stage 3 students and once a fortnight for Year 10.  Furthermore, themes and issues are also explored via our other curriculum subjects, the wider curriculum and deeper learning events. This is especially important for Year 11 students.  Should use wish to discuss the curriculum further please contact Miss Shepherd, cshepherd@copleyacademy.org.uk.
