Dear Year 11 Parent and Carers,
As students come to the end of their time at Copley, may I take the opportunity to thank you and to thank them for all their hard work during their time at the school. Although I have only worked with them since March, I have been impressed with their character and sense of community – they have made me very welcome here at the school and have worked positively by attending many intervention and after-school revision sessions in recent months to fully prepare for the exams.
As the examination season draws to a close, I am writing to confirm a number of practical arrangements for you and your child. Year 11 students will officially leave on Friday 14th June, following their Physics examination. Students will be permitted to sign each other’s spare shirts in the canteen hall during break should they wish to do so.
German and Hospitality/Catering students will then return to school on Monday 17th June and Tuesday 18th June to sit their examinations in these subjects.
The Year 11 leavers’ prom is at Smokies Hotel, Ashton and is being held on Friday 28th June. Students attending the event have made their menu choices and chosen their own seating plans. On the evening of the event, students are required to meet at Smokies for 6.30pm, where they will be met by members of staff. Students are required to make their own transport arrangements to and from the venue. Please be advised that the prom, as always, is an alcohol-free event; we reserve the right to refuse any student who appears intoxicated.
On arrival the students will receive a complimentary non-alcoholic drink. The night includes a three course meal, followed by some awards and the venues DJ will play all of the student’s favourite songs. There is also a photographer at the venue who is able to print 8x6” photos for £8 should students wish to purchase these.
I must remind all students and parents that we are representing the school and the conduct of each student is expected to be of the highest standard. Door staff at the venue may conduct security searches of bags and clothing in line with their policies; students who do not meet the expectations are likely to be sent home from the event. The event will finish at midnight. Parents are expected to have firm travel plans in place for their child at these time to ensure all students arrive home safely.
The Year 11 leavers assembly will be held on Wednesday 3rd July at Copley. This event will be a chance to reflect on the last 5 years of Copley life. Students should arrive at 10.30am for a 10.45am start, sign in at the pupil entrance then enter the hall. They will then be dismissed from school following the event, which we expect to be at around 11.45pm. Due to limited capacity, the assembly is an event for Year 11 students only. Students are not expected to wear uniform; they can attend in smart casual clothes. However, we would appreciate if students could bring with them and donate any “pre loved” school uniform that they no longer require please; Items such as blazers, trousers, skirts, shirts and ties are always welcome.
Year 11 GCSE examination results day is on Thursday 22nd August Students should arrive in school at 10am where members of the senior leadership team and teaching staff will be on hand in the hall to hand over their results envelopes, congratulations and any advice needed. Careers support will also be available during the morning.
Year 11 certificate evening
The official GCSE certificates will be given out on Thursday 7th November in a celebration evening held at school. Each student will be presented with their certificate and this also provides a great opportunity for students to be re-united with some old friends and teachers. We will write to you before this date to remind you of this event.
All students need to ensure that all library books are returned to the LRC (library) as soon as possible; books can be handed in at reception even after students have left us so please do check at home. Any text books now also need to be returned to the relevant class teachers.
All lockers need to be emptied by students before they leave and the key returned to the main office or Mrs Leach with the locker number clearly written on the key or in an envelope. At the end of the school year all lockers will be checked and cleaned and any remaining contents will be disposed of.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have given your child and the school throughout their time here; I wish you all a happy and healthy summer.
Mr M. Wilson
Head of Key Stage 4
